Media:Scape Table
TRY OUT THE MEDIA TABLE FOR 2 WEEKS ONLY

A Media:scape table was installed January 15 for a two week demonstration in the CLIC. Four people can use the table to collaborate. So bring your laptops and plug them into the table. Each laptop has a unique puck-shaped handset. When it is tapped, the laptop associated with the handset displays on the large LCD panel attached to the media table.. When the system is powered on, first-time users are offered a short tutorial animation. Come, try this out, and share your opinions about this collaboration tool.

 copyright symbol DISSERTATIONS AND COPYRIGHT
Recently several doctoral candidates have contacted the CLIC Librarians in Residence asking questions about including copyrighted materials in their dissertations. While we can't provide legal advice, we can direct you to some authoritative web sites to help you determine your best action.

Submitting your dissertation and thesis to UMI/Proquest
Since you are going to be submitting your dissertation to UMI/Proquest, their position on copyright and use of third party materials is important.

This quality site by Kenneth Crews provides good documentation and sample forms such as a sample "permission letter."

Quality Counts 2010 EDUCATION WEEK PUBLICATION

Quality Counts is Education Week’s annual report card on American public education as viewed through the lens of the states’ education policies and outcomes.

This year's Quality Counts 2010 theme—the latest iteration of the national debate over common academic standards—is complemented by extensive information on each state’s curriculum resources, assessments, and academic standards, drawn from the research center’s annual state survey.

The report’s authors participated in an online discussion of what they discovered through their research and reporting, as well as the EPE Research Center’s annual updates in four key areas of education policy and performance. You can view an archived version of this Webinar at http://edweek.org/go/webinar

Digital Object Identifier DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIERS (DOI)
As you may have noticed, many journal citations include a DOI number for a specific journal article. The APA is now requiring the inclusion of DOIs for references. When you submit a manuscript in APA form, you need to include the DOI for each article.

If you have a citation to a journal that is online, how do you locate the DOI for the article? One way is to use CrossRef's DOI Resolver. Great progress has been made in the field of reference linking, particularly in the important area of links to journal articles. The International DOI Foundation (IDF) is leading another effort, using Digital Object Identifiers (DOI), a form of Uniform Resource Name

If you have an article citation and you want to locate the DOI, we recommend that you use CrossRef as it has the most current listing.

Google and Google Scholar may provide citations you need, but they don't often include the DOI. If you have a citation without a DOI, use CrossRef to see if a DOI has been asigned.

Some databases such as PsycINFO automatically provide DOIs for articles that have them. We highly recommend downloading citations from PsycINFO as compared to Google Scholar as the citation information will probably be more accurate and the DOI will be there if it is available.

If you don’t have a DOI handy to try out the sites below, you could use this one.  DOI    10.3102/0013189X09354778
