Journal Citation Reports databaseIMPACT FACTORS
If you are going up for promotion or preparing your annual report, you may want to consult the newest offerings from the Journal Citation Reports® database.
  • The 5-Year Journal Impact Factor which is the average number of times articles from a journal published in the past five years have been cited in the JCR year. For journals in subjects where citation activity continues to rise through several years, this metric allows more of their total citation activity to be included in a critical performance metric.

  • Eigenfactor™ Metrics, comprising the Eigenfactor ™ Score and Article Influence Score, use JCR citation data to assess the influence of a journal in relation to other journals. These metrics, based on five years of citation activity, consider not just the count of citations but the structure of the citation network. Eigenfactor Metrics are available only for JCR years 2007 and later.

  • Journal Self Cites provides analyses of journal self citations and their contribution to the Journal Impact Factor calculation. Rank-in-Category reveals the ranking of a journal in its subject categories based on the Journal Impact Factor. An accompanying Impact Factor box plot depicts the distribution of Impact Factors for all journals in a category.

    PubMed database COVERAGE
The National Library of Medicine database MEDLINE/PubMed is going back in time. MEDLINE/PubMed now offers access to more than 60,000 articles indexed in the 1947 Current List of Medical Literature (CLMN).

Created in 1971, MEDLINE initially contained citations to journal articles published mostly from 1966 onward. But in 1996, NLM began to expand its retrospective coverage with the addition of more than 307,000 citations, originally published in the 1964 and 1965 Cumulated Index Medicus.

“Some contemporary medical questions can only be answered by consulting the older literature,” says NLM Director Donald A.B. Lindberg, MD. “Our goal is to go back as far as World War II, at least, to make older, printed indexes electronically searchable.”

With the addition of the 1947 citations, the MEDLINE/PubMed subset now contains over 20 million citations produced during 63 years of indexing of biomedical literature.
