DESCRIPTION: Your advisor recommends you review other dissertations as preparation for creating your own dissertation. Where do you begin? 
This workshop will show how to:

  • search for dissertations using the ProQuest database, Dissertation Theses Full Text
  • export search results into RefWorks
  • obtain copies of dissertations both electronic and print
  • attach digital copies of dissertations into your RefWorks account

Self Check Out paper form SELF CHECK OUT
The Self Check Out machine in the CLIC is not functioning. A repair person is investigating. If you need to check out a book from the Children's Book Collectio in the CLIC, please use the paper check out forms located on the table to the right as you enter the room where this collection is located. Put the completed forms in the box on the door of the librarian's office, 302C in the CLIC.

NCTM MATH RESEARCH
The NCTM, publishes a yearbook that is a great resource for research. The following link, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Yearbook provides access to 27 of the most current titles. The books are located in Alderman Library on the 5th floor, mezzanine level in the old section commonly referred to in Alderman as 5M, Old. If you click on the title of the book, in some instances, you will see the Table of Contents. If there is no Table of Contents (TOC) in VIRGO, see if the TOC is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Google Books by entering the title.

National Research Council RANKS PhD PROGRAMS
UVa Today announced, The long awaited study, A Data-Based Assessment of Research-Doctorate Programs in the United Stat examined more than 5,000 doctoral programs in 62 fields at 212 institutions of higher education across the U.S. According to the NRC, which is part of the National Academies, the purpose of the assessment is to "help universities improve the quality of programs through benchmarking; provide potential students and the public with accessible, readily available information on doctoral programs nationwide; and enhance the nation's overall research capacity." Once you register, you can obtain free PDF copies from this site.
