MOVIES IN THE CLIC
Throughout the Fall semester, Curry organizations and individuals will extend offers to you to engage in community building opportunities which involve getting to know each other, discussing, and creating great memories that you will remember long after you graduate! Two such opportunities involve showing movies in the CLIC. We invite all of you to attend as we continue to build a Curry community that supports each other, seeks to develop the expertise to discover solutions to perplexing problems, and extends our understanding of people and the world.

RETURNING BOOKS
You can return books, other library materials, and LEO materials by putting them in the book return bin on the 1st floor of Ruffner Hall. The bin is on your right just before you exit the building.
In addition, you can return books to the circulation desk at any of the UVa Libraries. There is a drive up book return bin behind Alderman Library. See the link above for its location.
JOURNAL PRICES
"Who are the most ruthless capitalists in the western world? "Whose monopolistic practices make Walmart look like a corner shop and Rupert Murdoch a socialist? You won't guess the answer in a month of Sundays. While there are plenty of candidates, my vote goes not to the banks, the oil companies or the health insurers, but – wait for it – to academic publishers....Some journals cost $10,000 a year or more to stock. The most expensive I've seen, Elsevier's Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, is $20,930."
--George Monbiot

NEW IES REPORT
The report, A Longitudinal View of the Receptive Vocabulary and Math Achievement of Young Children with Disabilities, shows the annual growth in receptive vocabulary and math performance of children who received preschool special education services. The study uses data from the Pre-Elementary Education Longitudinal Study to describe how children who received preschool special education services perform over time on assessments of receptive vocabulary and math skills. It also describes how their receptive vocabulary and math performance vary over time by primary disability category.

FINDING BOOKS
You will discover when you visit one of the libraries at UVa that we shelve our book collections by call number using a system referred to as the Library of Congress Call Number System (as opposed to the Dewey Decimal Call Number System used in public libraries). It is a bit tricky so take a look at this tutorial for learning Library of Congress Call Number and Shelving rules.
If you are going to Alderman Library to look for book, here is a guide to Call Number Locations in Alderman which will list on which floor you will find a given call number. For example, a book whose call number begins with LB will be on the 2nd floor mezzanine in the "new" part of Alderman (north side of Alderman Library). This is shown as 2M, New Section on the guide.
DATA TABLE LIBRARY
The International Data Table Library, a product of the National Center for Education Statistics, now includes over 60 statistical tables with data that compare facets of education in the United States with those of other countries. New tables include data on student performance in mathematics, science, and reading, as well as data on enrollment rates and trends; education, employment rates and income; class size; teachers and staff time; instructional time and practices; computer availability and use; student background and achievement; and home educational resources.
