JOURNAL IMPACT FACTORS
Journal authors are often encouraged to submit their manuscripts to a journal with a high impact factor. The impact factor is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field, with journals with higher impact factors deemed to be more important than those with lower ones. Where are impact factors reported? The most well known impact factor is provided by the database, Journal Citation Reports, published by Thomson Reuters. SCImago is another resource for impact factors. It is based on the Elsevier Publishing Company's Scopus database. Yet another resource is the Eigenfactor Project™ which is a non-commercial academic research project sponsored by the Bergstrom Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Washington. You can find a journal's Eigenfactor from the Eigenfactor web site or through the Journal Citation Reports which also gives the Thomson Reuter impact factor.
