EXTANT
W & S Jones. London. c. 1800-1815.

The sextant on display was made between 1800 and 1815 by W. & S. Jones of London. This sextant is configured and equipped in a manner similar to the one described by Lewis, although it has a smaller radius and slightly different scale and vernier scale divisions. In addition, Lewis and Clark’s sextant may have had one fewer set of shade glasses on the lower left-hand portion of its frame.

The sextant is on loan from the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution.
