Arise and Build The Great Fire Realia From the Jefferson Rotunda Painted Roof Tile

In the days after the Great Fire souvenir seekers came to the University Grounds and carried away mementoes of Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda. Miss Minnie Jones salvaged tin roofing tiles from the dome of the Rotunda, painted scenes of the ruins on them, and sold the paintings around Charlottesville. The tile pictured below is on loan from a friend of the University Library
