Research after Avery, BHA, Art Index, etc.

 

i.e. your path to the journal you seek

Does U.Va. own the journal/volume/issue you need?

Step 1: Go to VIRGO

Step 2: In the search field type the TITLE of the JOURNAL (designated variously in the databases as In, Source, etc.)

Step 3: Click on the radio button next to First Words

Step 4: Click on Journal Title. A list of Journal Titles should appear -- yours is usually the 2nd title in the list -- double click on this (If your title does not appear in the list, skip to Step 8)

Step 5: If another list of title appears click on show detail

Step 6: Look in the record for the Call Number, Owing Library and volumes/issues owned. You may have to look at several records to find the correct journal -- titles tend to be recycled, so look for volumes and years that match your citation; if you do not find the volume or issue that matches your citation, skip to Step 8

Step 7: Take the Call Number to the Periodical (another term for Journal) stacks and find the volume you need

UVa does not own the journal/volume/issue you need?

Step 8: Go to the Blue Bar on the Left of the VIRGO screen

Step 9: Go to Services

Step 10: Go to Interlibrary Services

Step 11: Pick the Request a Photocopy form

Step 12: Fill this out completely

Step 13: Click on Place Request
