This is one of the most important beginning sources. A surname index to numerous printed and published genealogies, the genealogical column of the Boston Transcript newspaper, the first census of the United States, and the 63 volumes of the Revolutionary War Records. Birth dates, when available, are recorded, as well as state location of the name indexed. The user should pay close attention to the list of sources from which the genealogies are drawn, since the list does not appear in every volume. Please note the explanation card on shelf beside the volumes in the Reference Room.
