The Lillian Gary Taylor Fellowship in American Literature

Lillian Gary Taylor Fellowships offer visiting scholars an opportunity to conduct research using the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. The Fellowship program provides fellows with a stipend, a private study in the Harrison Institute, and access to the Special Collections Library, as well as the larger U.Va. Library. Fellows may choose to conduct research at the Institute for a period of one to three months. In order to be considered for the fellowship, applicants must live outside the state of Virginia and either hold the Ph.D. or have already advanced to Ph.D. candidacy.
The Mary and David Harrison Institute for American History, Literature, and Culture at the University of Virginia Library is pleased to announce a competition for short-term visiting fellowships in American Literature for 2010. Lillian Gary Taylor Fellowships provide up to $5,000 in support, a private study in the Harrison Institute, and access to the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library, as well as the larger U.Va. Library. Fellows may choose to conduct research at the Institute for a period of one to three months. In order to be considered for the fellowship, applicants must live outside the state of Virginia and either hold the Ph.D. or have already advanced to Ph.D. candidacy.
To apply, please submit a cover letter describing the research to be conducted at the Institute, including specific reference to rare and unique materials housed in the Special Collections Library; a brief c.v.; and one letter of recommendation.
Special consideration may be given to those applicants whose research touches upon the broad theme “America and the World,” that is, how American literature has transformed, or been transformed by, other literatures around the globe.
