Halloween

Numbers refer to locations in the U.Va. Music Library collection. Items with "M" call numbers are scores; those with "CD" prefix are recordings on compact disc. Some other media are included in this list, but many LPs are not. Search VIRGO, the University of Virginia Library Catalog, to see if a title has been checked out or if other recordings are available.

Cool fact: In centuries past, there were various methods used to tune instruments, with the result that different keys had different "personalities." The key of d minor was especially associated with the scary, the spooky, and the demonic. See, for example, the first two works by Bach listed below, as well as Schubert's song and string quartet "Death and the Maiden"; Mozart also used the key to great effect in the final scene of Don Giovanni.
