U.Va. Librarian Biography

Karin Wittenborg Karin Wittenborg has been University Librarian at the University of Virginia since September 1993. She previously held positions at UCLA, Stanford, MIT, and the State University of New York. She received a BA from Brown University and an MLS from SUNY-Buffalo.

She is responsible for twelve libraries on Grounds and for a high density shelving facility off-Grounds. In 2005 the University Library was the recipient of the most prestigious national award for excellence in academic libraries. Wittenborg was the 2004 recipient of the Elizabeth Zintl Leadership Award and is a member of the Raven Society. She serves on the library boards of Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, and Stanford University. She also serves on the Board of the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), Washington, D.C.

She speaks and publishes on topics such as digital scholarship, special collections, preservation, and leadership.
