Basic Guidelines
Fonts, palette, and the U.Va. Library mark
The Library's design guidelines and templates let you easily create nametags, bookmarks, brochures, and signs for permanent or temporary use in the Library. Using the templates will save you valuable time—all you have to do is type in your text and perhaps plug in an image, and immediately you have a printable, professional-looking piece. Plus, your brochure or sign will be easily recognizable by staff, faculty, and students as coming from the U.Va. Library.
Our design style uses Times New Roman font for headers and general text and Helvetica (or Arial) for subtitles and captions. Please use the recommended fonts. Each template's guidelines will supply font size recommendations.
The primary color palette is U.Va. Blue (C=100, M=58, Y=0, K=21), used for border bars in the templates. A secondary color palette of 8% U.Va. Blue (C=8, M=5, Y=0, K=2) is also used. As navy blue is a difficult color to print, please contact the Communications Department if your printer is producing a blue that appears purple or does not otherwise look right to you, and we'll be glad to help.

Each template—brochure, bookmark, sign—uses the U.Va. Library mark (see the Brown Library mark in the sidebar content to the right) to indicate which library the communication is issuing from. Marks will vary in size and design depending on the template, but are easily customized for appearance and library by downloading from the appropriate template's page.
